Interactive Book Design – An Introduction

The Purposeful iReader

…is fully focused on getting the most out of the interactive book’s concept, the idea and the purpose, and the message or/and knowledge and skills provided. The interactive features should be pointing to the aspects that the author will put forward. It is for this user-type mostly to improve the understanding of the story or content.

The Explorative iReader

…wants to explore as much as possible of the content, the functionality and interactive features. Every page of the book will be carefully read. Engagement, experience and joy are some of the driving forces of this user-type. Additional features like lexicons and background stories are much appreciated, as well as explorative tasks on the web. The author’s idea and purpose are secondary, while the personal experience is most important.
